A mix of favorite places to shop and dine!

Jalan Mertanardi, Seminyak, where the action starts, run your fingers down the page to visit all these spots on the map!
Full – is a new Homewares store smack bang in the middle of bustling Jl Mertanardi. Spied some fresh cushion covers (you can never have enough cushion covers, do change them on a regular basis!) lots of cute and unusual gift ideas and the most incredible ‘real life’ artificial flowers you will ever see in Bali, the collection found here are totally hip and fabulous! Pop into Full for a browse, there’s room for a one car parking spot in front (alongside) their shop. (opp. The Art of Body)

The Art of Body – with parking at front. (opp. Full for Homewares) Upstairs is where you can learn the techniques of pole dancing by Natalie, an Elite Heath Coach, and downstairs is where you can loosen up your limbs with Pilates and Yoga. A wonderful easy space to pop into for an hours workout, you will feel all the better for some exercise, makes it easier to slide into that lovely dress!
Gusto Gelato & Café – again this lively spot was based in Umalas 2 and moved up to Jl Mertanadi a little while ago, by the looks of the cars in the driveway they haven’t looked back, if a place is good in Bali, word spreads quickly. Half way up on the right hand side of the road, situated between property offices, a cool air con retreat takes you in. Good coffee, sweet confections and of course loads of choice in the ice cream department with plenty of seating to while away a little time from the madness out on this road!
The Boutique – Hotel and Villa Solutions. There are now a few of these types of retail/wholesale establishments around. Ideal if you are on the look out for some tabletop ware, bed and table linens, bathroom amenities, towels, artworks for the walls etc. The beauty is it’s all in one space and makes for quick and easy shopping if in a hurry! Again this store is located on Jl Mertanardi, No 78 (often street numbers mean little in Bali!) but it’s very near a most interesting Africa/Moroccan restaurant painted red and blue (if I am not mistaken?!)
Living Karma – another re-location from a very busy spot for traffic at the top end of Jl Petitenget to further down to a slightly less chaotic spot on Jl Petitenget (ex Cubana Bar) love this space for their Scandinavian style furniture in clean contemporary lines. The issue with buying furniture in Bali is that items on the shop floor are samples and so you must wait for at least four to six weeks for it to be made in Java. With Ramadan on the horizon orders (mid June) will take some time!

Heliconia – Specialists in Tropical Flowers, they have also located to Sunset Road! (where Black Pepper restaurant was) Easy to find, just before you arrive at Jl Kunti 1 where Bali Deli is situated. Love Heliconia for their choice of blooms to the sweetest mini pineapples on sticks, at least if you purchase a bunch you know they will last in our hot weather. This is also why so many living here buy the beautiful orchids in pots, once finished hang them on a tree to renew and then they will bloom again. For exotic arrangments, a bunch of foliage, orchids, a bridal bouquet to a new glass or ceramic vase for purchase, it’s all here!
Balquisse Living – Whether you are in the market to buy or just to look, this expansive retail emporium is too lovely not to miss. And besides maybe it’s a few new cushion covers, plates, lantern or a stunning chandelier maybe some new contemporary outdoor furniture? All the product here is well displayed that if you can’t have it, ideas will fill your mind in how you may ‘dress up your space” Sunset Road, just a little ways past XP Property offices on the left side driving down.

SAKANAYA – Fish market by Ryoshi, Sunset Road, not so far along from Balquisse. A place that many would drive past on a daily basis not knowing that this is the spot for fresh fish, especially tuna! Set back off Sunset Rd, it’s a local style café at front but walk inside to check out what is available from their fish tank and fridge. It’s only a small space, but the fish is tops, available to take home, or you can choose some fish and they will cook it right there and then for alfresco dining in the café outside.

UC Silver in Batubulan on the way up to Ubud from the ByPass.
Every time I drive past I have to smile and almost laugh at the gargoyles and stone sculptures that cover the walls of the property, they are truly amazing!!
Unique, Amusing and Balinese, but the ones I love in particular are the line of pigs on bicycles at the front entrance, they all have cute smiles too!
If you haven’t visited UC Silver, do make the effort and go in. The vast array of silver, jewels and other product is staggering and you will find a piece that won’t cost a fortune, is real value for money.

Shopping always makes one feel peckish so here are a few names that will satisfy your thirst, taste buds and a place to chill.
URCHIN – is the newest restaurant on the scene, located in front / part of the very popular Colony Hotel on Jl Kayu Ayu (formally Jl Laksmana/Oberoi) opposite the Samaya Resort.
And because this resto is within a great little shopping hub, it’s the perfect place to sit down at the end of the day, relax and enjoy a cool drink, a cocktail or two and then perhaps not wanting to move any further, enjoy dinner. The fish is truly delicious! Happy hours here make the ideal spot for watching a colorful passing parade!
TOWNHOUSE – located on Jl Kayu Ayu (if you read RT on a regular basis, this street was named Jl Laksmana/Jl Oberoi) right at the left hand bend heading down to KuDeTa. This interesting looking establishment consists of several levels; from café plus juicebar downstairs, to restaurant and lounge upstairs and roofgarden. But it’s the café & juice bar that shoppers will fancy, as it’s an easy spot to duck into for a shot of caffeine and a slice of delicious homemade cake, try the carrot cake with or without cream! I can assure you, you will be back for more the next day……

The Sandy Bay Beach Club on Nusa Lembongan this destination epitomises what an authentic beach club is, all blue and white (a touch of the Greek isles as well) with open bar & restaurant, umbrellas, whitewash and thatched roofs and only a few steps down to the sandy beach and waters edge.
The perfect spot to chill with an icy cold Bintang and a platter of coconut prawns, Yum!
There is no doubt that life on Nusa Lembongan is gaining speed, more villas and resorts opening up, and, this bay where you alight from your fast boat across, is the ideal spot for a large marina?!
Still quaint, with little open trucks to transport you all around the isle, or a motor bike, but be careful, the perfect terrain to fall on downhill rocky tracks for a gigantic graze!
